Tap: A percussive style of dance which gets its name from the sound made when the metal plates on the dancer’s shoes contact the floor. Emphasis on rhythm and clarity of sounds from the feet. Tap classes will perform two routines in the recital. This class is 45 minutes a week for ages 5-11 and one hour a week for ages 12-18.
Ballet: A class which progresses from beginning ballet steps to advanced technique and placement. Each class will begin at the barre, then move to center floor work and across the floor. Ballet is the building block of all other forms of dance and necessary to excel in all other forms. For this reason we strongly encourage all students to take a ballet class. Ballet classes will perform one routine in the recital. This class is 45 minutes a week for Ballet I, one hour a week for Ballet II-III, and one and a half hours a week for Ballet IV-VI.
Jazz with Musical Theater: (for ages 5-11) Jazz builds on the fundamentals learned in ballet and is very structured in technique. It takes many forms, and is often performed to upbeat music. Musical theater is a form of jazz found on Broadway. These classes will perform one jazz routine and one musical theater routine in the recital. This class is 45 minutes a week.
Jazz with Lyrical: (for ages 12-18) Jazz builds on the fundamentals learned in ballet and is very structured in technique. It takes many forms, and is often performed to upbeat music. Lyrical is a fusion of jazz and ballet which uses movement to interpret a song’s lyrics. These classes will perform one jazz routine and one lyrical routine in the recital. This class is one hour a week.
Hip Hop: Also known as street dance, hip hop is an upbeat dance style that has become hugely popular. All music and dance moves are age appropriate. Hip hop classes will perform one routine in the recital. This class is 45 minutes for preschool, 45 minutes for ages 5-11, and one hour for ages 12-18.
Acrobatics: This class teaches the basics of floor tumbling (such as forward and backward rolls, backbends, cartwheels, etc.) and progresses to advanced tumbling (such as handsprings and aerial work). Teachers work with students on their individual level. Acro classes will perform one routine in the recital. This class is 45 minutes to one hour a week.
Cheerdance: This class combines the elements of cheer and dance. Students will learn pom, stunts, cheers and chants, jumps, and a cheerdance routine. These classes will perform one routine in the recital. Cheerdance classes are 45 minutes for ages 5-11, and one hour for ages 12-18.
Preschool Dance: This class teaches the fundamentals of tap and ballet while incorporating fun, creative movement and free dance. Students will begin with tap and finish with ballet. These classes will perform two dances in the preschool recital. They are 45 minutes a week.
Tumble Bugs: This class teaches the fundamentals of tumbling and acrobatics to preschoolers. They will learn basics such as forward and backward rolls and backbends. They will also work on developmental skills while using the mini-tramp, balance beam, and obstacle course (which incorporates hula hoops, jump ropes, tunnel, etc.). These classes will perform one routine in the preschool recital. They are 45 minutes a week.
Pointe: This class is for our most advanced ballet students who wish to dance en pointe. Students must be at least 12 years old and have had 3 years or more of ballet training to register for this class. This class will perform one routine in recital and is one hour a week.
Technique: This class is for dancers who wish to improve their strength, flexibility, and technical dancing. The focus will be improving flexibility through an intense series of stretches, followed by strength training and work on technique primarily in turns and leaps. This class is one hour a week and will not perform in recital.
